We enjoyed our time at St Augustine but now we’re having a bit of trouble leaving. It’s been quite windy and the forecast is for even more wind. The conditions aren’t favorable for a smooth ocean sail to Port Canaveral. We’ve decided to move on but take the slower ICW route. Here’s the problem, all that wind has pushed extra water into the harbor. This raises the water level, reducing the bridge clearance, so now we’re too tall to go under the bridges. I think we’ll make it under during this afternoon’s low tide.
While here, we installed new solar panels so the folks at the hardware store know us quite well. Walking the mile to the hardware store is great exercise, especially when you need to hurry before they close. We’re loving the new panels. They’re bigger and more efficiently. What do you do with old solar panels?
We stayed on a mooring ball at the municipal marina right in the heart of the historic section of town. It feels like a Spanish Williamsburg. Lots of restaurants, shops and one poor guy trying to get folks to try fancy soap samples. There is a complimentary water taxi that does 5 loops of the mooring field per day but we used our own dinghy to get to the main dock. We toured the old Spanish fort, went to the Alligator farm, and toured the distillery, not necessarily in that order. The alligator farm doesn’t serve alligator meat but you can get it in town. It’s delicious.
