Farewell Stocking Island & George Town

We got under way northward this morning. The weather forecast predicted a lovely sailing day for traveling north in the Exuma Sound (east side of the island chain) and it was correct. We had 15 knots of wind and 2–4 foot seas behind us all day. We flew the Parasail and made good time to Galliot Cut where we crossed back west to the Exuma Bank side of the island chain. We settled in to a beautiful anchorage with an island blocking the breeze that we had just been sailing on.

Yesterday we moved Luna over to the George Town side of the harbor. With all of the wind that we’ve been having, dinghy rides can get quite splashy. Since we needed to resupply, that was going to be quite a few bumpy and wet excursions across the harbor. It was much simpler to move Luna and anchor over next to the town. It took three runs, one to get groceries, one to get fuel and fish and one to go to Island Boy Cafe for drinks and a burger.

Finding the fish market can be tricky for novices. It’s in the hair salon across from the Shell station – not the hair salon across from the market. The proprietor’s husband is a fisherman so naturally she sells his catch out of a cooler that sits in the waiting area. We got some hogfish.
