We had a very nice ocean sail from Port Canaveral to Fort Pierce. The waves were low and rolling, the wind was behind us, so we were able to fly the ParaSailor. That’s like a spinnaker. Of course with ocean sailing, you want all of your instruments on the mast. So the afternoon before, Mike went back up the mast and reinstalled everything. Funny thing is that at the Fort Pierce Inlet, we had to go under a fixed bridge to get to our marina. Florida is still experiencing King Tides so the bridge clearance wasn’t gonna work for us. So, drop anchor, back up the mast and remove everything. We’re getting really good at this.
We got in to the marina just after sunset. The dock hand had to use a flashlight to show us our spot. Usually, they just stand there and wave. Luckily, they gave us an easy-in spot at the end of a long floating dock. It’s like parking at the end of a long line. Just don’t hit the vessel in front of you or it’s huge, looming anchor. We tucked in right under it.
If you’re wondering where birds go for the winter, I think it’s here. It’s swarming with them. My favorites are the Green Herons who like to rest on dock lines and power cables. They just climb on from the dock and scoot out to the middle and swing on the line. It’s pretty cute. I’ll see if I can get a picture.
There’s a farmer’s market at the marina on Saturday. We’ll probably head south again after that.
