Bay River - Quiet Anchorage

We got up early and got outta Dodge (Wanchese) this morning. We sailed across the Pamlico Sound and tucked up in a quiet anchorage to get some sleep. We are the only ones here. I’m guessing everyone else was too smart to sail the Pamlico this morning. The wind was up, 25 knots gusting to 35. That REALLY made the Pamlico choppy. It was full-on life jacket weather. It settled down to lovely sailing after about an hour of the rough stuff.

The wind was much worse over the previous two days so that’s why we stayed in Wanchese so long. After seeing it this morning, I’m glad we did.

The first day in Wanchese was rainy and windy so we mostly hunkered down in our boats. We all went to O’Neals for lunch. That was terrific. The next day we realized that there is nothing else to do in Wanchese so, after eating there again, some of us Ubered back to Manteo and took the distillery tour. So, after 5 days on a 2–day island, it was time to go.
