We are staying the night on the free dock at the Dismal Swamp Welcome Center. Mile Marker 28.
We have another sailboat rafted to our side. They arrived too late to get any space on the dock and too late to make it through the final lock to exit the swamp. They were happy that we let them tie to us until they heard that we plan to leave at 7:30 am. It’s pretty chilly so lounging around enjoying a leisurely breakfast isn’t on the menu.
Today we left Norfolk in blustery conditions and entered the peaceful swamp. It’s even worse in Norfolk and the Chesapeake Bay tonight but we’re enjoying the quiet here in the swamp. There are some overhead branches to watch for and a few looming logs to bump. No real problems.
We have officially left Virginia.
Total miles south: 172. Temperature tonight vs. Vienna: 4 degrees warmer.
